here's my latest poem-in-gestation: a "like, whatever*" answer poem to "My Last Duchess." Ya'll know that right? (It's Robert Browning):

That's my last duchess painted on the wall,
Looking as if she were alive. I call
That piece a wonder, now: Fra Pandolf's hands
Worked busily a day, and there she stands...

anyway, this "assignment" came up as a response to a thread on my wom-po list-serve (women in poetry -- how do I love this list!)

*a "like, whatever" poem is done in the voice of a valley girl (val) character. In this case, a very intelligent val who uses "whatever" as irony and escapism.
