Day 16

At the Water Fountain

Last year, you were just three
and the water was exciting
but also overwhelming. You wanted
me to chase you, or carry you.
Your face couldn't get wet.
We spent more time playing
with your trains, watching other kids
get wet.
This year, you're not yet four. It's April
and just hot enough for the fountains.
And you are in it, in the stream
of water, shooting up from below.
You're fully immersed and running, skipping,
playing, scooping, tumbling.
Like every kid here, but unique, because
you are the only you in existence.
