Wonder and awe

(Day four of reverb10 and it's my birthday!)

Author: Jeff Davis

Prompt: Wonder. How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?

Wonderment (awe) is one of my native senses. I've cultivated it since childhood, because I knew (even then) that I did not want to loose this important sense.

The world is too amazing, too beautiful, too grand to take it for granted.

Meditation (being in the present moment) cultivates awe.

Writing poetry cultivates awe.

Taking photographs cultivates awe.

Art is the direct result of the sense of amazement. At being challenged by and drawn to that truth that is larger than Truth (and which manifests differently for each artist, each piece).

Wonderment is all around us.

We don't need eyes or ears, though they help. We simply need to grasp that this -- all of this, or even just the this that is in front of us at this moment -- is amazing. Spectacular. Tremendous.

Just because it exists. Just because we exist. Even if we're hurting or scared or happy and excited, wonder never ceases.

It's right here. Waiting. Just for you.
