"Dream a Little Dream of Me..."
I don't know about you, but I have had many incarnations in this lifetime.
Perhaps it is because (as my mom pointed out -- not in the comments, but in my link on facebook to my jean skirt tutorial) I am a "double sag tiger" (read: highly mutable astrologically). But perhaps it is just because I have taken to heart the philosophy espoused in this Ralph Waldo Emerson quote: "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."
In my life, I have decided to be a lot of people. (Sometimes all at once, sometimes making a clear break.)
I have been an assistant dairy manager at a Natural Foods Co-op.
I have been happily unemployed (and I have been unhappily unemployed). I have been a museum receptionist. I taught poetry in the schools and was paid to play Ophelia in front of middle and high schoolers. I have been a student. I have been a full time mom. (I'd say now I am a part-time mom, because my son spends his days in full-day pre-school, but part time isn't really a good description.)
I have always, always, deep deep deep within been an artist (and now I am a person trying to get paid as an artist. Which is way different!)
I have been Christian, Pagan, (sortof) Buddhist and then I converted to Judaism in my early twenties. I have questioned my spiritual beliefs a million times, a million ways and I am pretty happy to keep questioning and know that perhaps the question is the only answer I may ever find.
I have been single (as a teenager LOL) and have been in a deeply committed relationship since 1994.
I enjoy all the incarnations I have been (and am and will be). I enjoy the process of changing my "me" to align more and more fully with my beliefs.
However, the transitions... well, the transitions are not always smooth. But that's a post for another day.
What about you? Do you identify with this quote? Do you have a fluid identity or a mutable one? And most importantly, does it align with your astrological sign? ;-)
