NaPoWriMo 2012: twenty two

Earth Day 2012

Yesterday, we cleared our yard
of the accumulated leaves
we'd "forgotten" to rake last fall
(habitat for tiny snakes and millipedes).
We made way for new growth,
exposing grubs for birds,
letting the green shoots have
room to breathe. But however
I spin it, responsible home ownership
isn't as diversifying (or easy)
as letting it all rot together.
And so, today I will build
a new compost pile and let the rot
happen in a respectable way.
