the stories we tell (poeming)

we tell ourselves stories all the time.

(have I written this before? it seems obvious. but I haven't. at least not with this into.)
(I looked through my archives to make sure.)
<but of course, that isn't everything I'veever written.)

we tell ourselves stories all the time.

telling the same story until it looses its power.
telling the same story until I find its power.
telling the same story to find and then loose that power, over and over.

a lot of my stories involve repetition.

(this might be why I'm a poet.)
(this might be why I like villanelles and pantoums.)
(this might be why I'm not great at keeping friends.)

we tell ourselves stories all the time.

<this is obvious.>
<i am obvious.>
<i am a story. >

told and retold.
told. and. retold.
and

we tell ourselves stories all the time.
