10 Random Things About Me

1. I sing in the car. Loudly. And I dance along. Especially if I'm the passenger. I think the secret to my graceful belly dance hands is car dancing.

2. I wanted dreadlocks for as long as I can remember (or braids when I was younger and didn't realize I, too could have locks) and in the almost four years since I "locked up" I have not once regretted it. I have regretted not letting them happen sooner (which is a silly regret) and I wish I could find a great person to do their upkeep. But, "Moi, je regrette rien." Locks are one of the more in-your-face decisions I've made in my life and I'm glad every single day that I found the cajones to go for it instead of just longing for them.

3. I don't have any tattoos. I've always wanted two very specific tats, but never had the money or the cajones because I'm afraid of the pain. I'm working on facing that fear.

4. I'm a movie buff. I took a film studies class in college, and then film making (and I've been acting on stage since long before that time). I love movies, I see a larger than average amount in the theater (we use our date afternoon once a week and before we had Remy we went even more often).

5. But I no longer see most tear jerkers. I definitely do not see ones where any form of sexual abuse, incest, rape, genocide or torture happen as a main part of the plot. This used to be one of my favorite categories of movies ("Once Were Warriors," "The Color Purple" ect...) but after the robbery, I just lost my ability to hold it together.

6. I was held hostage during a robbery attempt at the grocery store I worked at in my early 20s. It's been 14.5 years. 15 in February. Wow, that's a long time ago.

7. My (now) husband and I had been dating for a year and a half at the time I was held hostage. His brother called him to ask whether I was at work that night because he saw the police pull into the parking lot. (Before the robbers got away by using us as human shields.)

8. I never liked scary movies, even before the robbery. Horror movies are very out of my league, except for certain vampire movies and possibly comedic or sci-fi thriller fusions. I still make some mistakes and occasionally see movies I really shouldn't have seen ("Seven" comes immediately to mind). It's a tricky thing, not knowing what will actually take hold in my psyche and give me nightmares. And I love action-adventure and thrillers. It's a line I walk by reading reviews and seeing previews.

9. I used to have some seriously whacked nightmares. I wanted to figure out lucid dreaming, but never could. You know how in "Inception" there's a "kick" and they wake up from one dream into another (there being levels planned into their dreams)? That happens to me in my dreams, but unplanned. And not lucid, I'll wake up thinking I'm awake but um, no. Different dream. Which I again don't realize is a dream. Does that happen to everyone?

10. I originally planned for this to be "36 Random Things About Me" (because I'm turning 36 in a month and 11 days, but who's counting? LOL) but I got longwinded and I'm sure you're thanking me for stopping here.
