Poem 4/16/2011

Asking For It

There may be ways to ask
without asking, but wearing
a short skirt in public
isn't one of them. I ask
with my eyes, when I love
and (most importantly)
am loved. Don't let my
awe-inspiring cleavage
or your weird entitlement
over random women's
bodies confuse you: we
aren't asking for anything
walking down the street!

Today's poem inspired by a lifetime of feminism, the Toronto Slut Walk held recently, a twitter convo with a friend on this issue, and Arya at Style Trumps Fashion, who had a shame free blog in yesterday (which I didn't read about til this morning, via my friend Shay at DoubleTakeBellyDance.
