playing with double exposure

Since starting the 365 self-portrait project series, I've been doing a lot of playing around with double exposure. I was able to find an Android app (vignette) that has a fair amount of filters and does double exposure in the app (I'm still looking for a filter to duplicate the tintype hipstamatic pak, to no avail).

What I am I going for with the double exposures is conveying feeling or theme through an interesting juxtaposition of positions and the overall line and color feeling. I normally shoot a few at a time and then play around with the filters in both vignette and instagram. I normally only "publish" one a day on instagram, but sometimes, the "outtakes" are good enough that I don't feel like I'm spamming my feed with them.

For example, in the collage above (numbered from top left in rows) 1, 3, 4 and 5 were photos I tagged on instagram for the 365 project. 2, 6, 7 and 8 were outtakes that didn't end up on instagram and 9 is an outtake that I put on instagram and tagged for Be Your Own Beloved but not for the 365 project.

Sometimes they are great, sometimes they aren't. For example, I love #7, but the tips of my fingers got cut off by the window, so it didn't work for me as the photo of the day. That's what this project is about, for me: playing as practice. Figuring out what works (for me) and what doesn't. Learning new techniques. Having fun.
