we went hiking today and I learned that using hiking poles really does make a huge difference.
I'm in less pain than the last time we went hiking (last month) and the poles also seemed helpful for my endurance. I was able to go on a much steeper climb. my hips and knees were happy, with just a few twinges of my hips. my lungs weren't totally happy on the trail, but I expect to get winded, going uphill. I feel like I got less winded than the last time we went out.
I do wish I'd brought my mirrorless camera. next time!
(this trail is about ten minutes from our new apartment. there's a bazillion other trails in close proximity. but presumably the next time we'll go hiking will be in Peru. !!!!)
