sunday in the almost bare trees
we spent our extra date day (drop off kid birthday parties for the win!) hiking.
it had rained the night before, so it was a little muddy, but too much. just enough to keep us on alert, making sure not to get our feet soaked.
there was a thick blanket of wet leaves everywhere (except the paths - these are well trodden and kempt paths). and still there were still with dead leaves that had not fallen (they hang on, in some trees, I've learned, living here), which tonight I've learned is called marcescence. oh, what a beautiful word.
and oh, what a beautiful world.
the decay and the growth, the ebb and the flow, the yes and the no.
the light and the shadow.
the mud and the dry shoes.
(oh, thank you for dry shoes.)
